Steve joined Brunswick in January, 2009.

Experience before joining Brunswick

Worked in commercial horticulture since leaving school at sixteen, growing and marketing vegetables, fruit, perennials, bedding plants, shrubs, trees, wildflowers and Christmas trees, as well as some landscaping work in the 1980’s.  Worked in Derbyshire, Kent, Herefordshire, Yorkshire and The Vale of Evesham (Worcestershire/Warwickshire border).  Horticultural qualifications are an Ordinary National Diploma in Commercial Horticulture (Hadlow, 1978) and a Higher National Diploma in Horticultural Management and Technology (Askham Bryan, 1994).  I have worked with people who have learning difficulties since 1992, mostly in horticultural settings.  Also have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Disability Studies (Leeds University, 1995).

Current role at Brunswick

At Brunswick I have mostly worked in Plant Production (initially as Plant Production Manager and more recently as Area Leader) but have also done some one to one work covering for other people.  Have also covered crop production and garden services groups on rare occasions.

A fond Brunswick memory

Lots of positive memories about interactions with workers.  One relatively recent one was going to the office with a worker to greet his mother and care manager to take them to the portacabin for a review.  During the review the care manager commented on the obviously positive relationship that the worker and I have just from listening to us talking as we walked over to the portacabin.

A little something about you

I have been a vegetarian for over thirty years and my family has given a home to fourteen rescue dogs and numerous rescue cats over the last thirty eight years.  Even though I worked in conventional horticulture for years (spraying all sorts of nasties in all sorts of places) I am completely convinced that we should be able to feed the world using organic principles to grow our food.
